New Jersey’s true gems are its county parks. Not far from where I sit, Essex, Union, Somerset, and Morris County all converge. This spring, I encourage you to visit all the county parks.

In Essex County, be sure to visit the South Mountain Reservation. It has over 2,000 acres of preserved land with wonderful trails, waterfalls, and an unparalleled lookout view. At the bottom of the hill, you can also check out the Turtleback Zoo, which is a great place to take your kids.

Union County features the amazing Trailside Nature and Science Center, attached to the Watchung Reservation. Again, there are 2,000 acres of preserved lands, as well as rivers and lakes. They also have a state of the art facility devoted to wildlife education.

In Somerset County, visit the Washington Rock Park, the historic lookout for Washington’s troops during the Revolutionary War. You can also visit Duke Farms, a fantastic estate famous for its hiking and biking trails.

Finally, head over to Morris County to see the Great Swamp. The Great Swamp is great for hikers and bikers. It’s also a fun place to bring the kids because you can see the raptor preserve, which helps rehabilitate birds of prey.

This spring, get out there and check out all of the county parks, not just your own. If you have any questions about fun things to do, give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you!
